Today's "Ball" selection is by German painter Fritz Steinmetz-Noris. In this handsome scene we observe a man and woman preparing for that evening's party. They are both turned away from each other and using seperate mirrors. I'm uncertain of the relation of these two subjects, but one could assume that they are a married couple and this scene is their home. I sense they are more than confortable with each other, and with that in mind it's charming to see them in the same room together while allowing each other their own personal space.
I'm intrigued by the artist's rendering to the interior, especially his sharp use of perspective for the cabinet, wall hangings, and rug. These elements are so precise and orderly that at first this room appears confining, however the various other furnishings throughout the scene function to lighten this tension. I would be curious to see more interiors by this artist.
