Today’s “Ball” selection is by German painter Carl Rudolph Sohn. Our subject is dressed for that evening’s party, however, based on her body language and attitude, she doesn’t seem pleased with whatever is transpiring. Gripping the chair while looking offward with that pensive expression, something is on her mind. Maybe she’s nervous or impatient about the upcoming party, or perhaps dreading having to confront a certain someone who will be there. We’ve all had occasions like that, over-analyzing events to come, and sometimes all that worry was for naught as the situation either fizzles out or is resolved without incident.
That aside, the really like Sohn’s rendering of the dress and his detail of the chair. Very nice. I would prefer if the background were simpler, as I find the curtain design too busy, distracting attention away from our subject.
