Today's "Ball" selection is by Belgian painter Georges van den Bos. This is handsomely-cropped portrait of a woman deep in thought, or perhaps waiting for someone, after her evening out. The pale blue wall provides a simple background, serving not to distract from our subject--a wise choice.
She has such a strong profile. Her hand resting at her chin as she looks elsewhere leads me to question what's on her mind. Even after the evening's party, she seems patient and composed, however she won't allow herself to be taken for granted. I sense that additude about her. Unlike some of our other "Ball" subjects, this woman is both elegant and thoughtful.
Above all else, I love the artist's use of light on her pale skin and white dress. I find this a very beautiful painting--a treat for the eyes with rich colors and lush brushwork.
