George Henry Boughton - Dancing Down the Hay (1887)

Today I would like to share 'Dancing Down the Hay' by American painter George Henry Boughton. In this scene the farmers have wisely put the youngsters' energy to good use to complete the task of prepping hay for storage. Granted they aren't being forced by their elders, it good to see the children have some fun while helping around the farm. As shown here, even play can be productive if guided properly. This piece is a great observation of daily rural life in late 19th century America.
